The Origins of Ghost Pokemon

Are they true spirits?
Where do they come from?

Researchers have been fascinated by Ghost-type pokemon for
quite some time.  Unique qualities, such as being to
dissapear and manifest a physical form at will, are
astounding.

     But are these actually ghosts?
Research, scientific and personal slike, suggest that this
is the case.  Ghost-type pokemon are very likely spiritual
incarnations of former pokemon.  They have tendencies to
haunt, just as human apparitions are known for.  These
Pokemon also gather en masse in the resting places of the
dead around the world, in notable locations such as the
Lost Tower in Sinnoh and the hotly debated Lavender Town
Radio Station in Kanto.

Since clear lines of communication between humans and
pokemon is shaky at best, it has been difficult in
understanding the nature of the past lives of the ghosts.
Strong Psychic-type pokemon with telepathic abilities have
shed a little bit of light on the subject, but are
unwilling for the most part, to do this.  The minds of the
dead are, by their very nature, dangerous and
unpredictable places to roam. It quite often traumatizes
the most veteran of pokemon.

However, a far cruder method exists to extract some
information about them.  For some time, it has been
commonplace to administer a Technical Machine containing
Hidden Power to one's pokemon, even if not a desired move.
Out of curiosity, trainers, breeders and researchers
alike are moved to discover what secret potential is
hidden in each individual pokemon.  Some have argued that
the use of this TM on Ghost-types will determine what sort
of pokemon they were before death.
But what is the reason to be kept from the restful embrace
of true death, and reincarnated?  In some societies, it is
believed that one may be reborn into a different form to
atone for past mistakes, and may be doomed to do so until
a resolution has been reached.

With that in mind, trainers no longer lodge missing
Pokemon reports as often as before.  Sudden
dissappearances of Ghost-typed pokemon are common.  It is
now thought this occurs when the ghost has redeemed its
soul, and finds a way to peace.
